3. A crowded TARDIS. The series was never better than when it was like this:

FFS, we ought to have a "warning: McCoy pic" alert on thread titles.

I sometimes think that the McCoy era had a lot more integrity than it does now... then I see a clip or a picture of it and remember it was shit.

I think we need more 2 part invasion of Earth by old foes using the most fashionable, 3 years ago, trendy gadget as a bridge.

Something like a Rutan invasion via iPods would be the ticket, and we'll need some state of the art 1990s CGI to show the 1,000s of Rutan crafts flying down towards the earth.

I know it's a bit left field, but it just might work.

edited to add, this this is just too friggin' easy init? :<

I'd like the Dr to say, "I'm so sorry," a lot more, because, well, I'm never sure if he's sorry.

Bring an old companion back - maybe Pertwee/Tom era - but subtlely change his/her character so that it appears they've suffered major brain damage during the thirty-odd years it's been since they last met, and they've regressed from a reasonably normal human being into a gibbering half-wit suffering from an inexplicable rejection complex stemming from a non-existent romance*.

*If Forrest Gump has shown us nothing else, it's that modern audiences adore love-lorn r*****s. If the companion could trail around after the Doctor and say "Doctor, why won't you marry me?" every other line of dialogue, it would effectively - and hilariously! - carry home the point.

More references to things like EastEnders and J.K. Rowling. I'm not convinced that the audience are fully aware of what era the series is set in, and handy mentions of such popular icons would help ground the series in reality more; let the folks back home know the Doctor isn't simply a Time Lord Sex God, but someone who watches the same TV shows and reads the same books as them.

(Maybe angle at a deal with KFC to show he eats the same food as them too, if the advertising restriction can be lifted)

Also, if the Doc could do a little song and dance act per story to a kareoke favorite; something like, say, Ghostbusters. If the companion could join in too, that would be smashing!

With RTD at the helm one or two characters used the idiom of the historical period they came from. Morph needs to crack down on this - everyone should talk like a 21st century British person who's a massive fan of Will & Grace and doesn't watch anything else.
Elgin came from a working class background, but through being bright at exams had gone to university, and now looked down on those less fortunate than himself.

Bring back Patrick Troughton. With today's air freshening technology, it's not as daunting as it used to be.

You'd have to ask the 'Rak for some of the bits back, though.
