Tom Ward, the Doctor that never was?

I've been following "Silent Witness" on BBC Entertainment for some time. While the newer seaons IMHO never reach the Amanda Burton era in quality, I really, really like Tom Ward as Harry. And recently I figured out why: he reminds me a lot of a toned down Tennant-as-10th-Doctor. Yes, there's some physical resemblence, but it's in the performance: 10th Doctor, charisma and intensity intact, but without the annoying silliness/overacting. A wasted opportunity?

I've thought the same thing. :think

Many years ago he starred as HG Wells in a miniseries where the premise was to show where the writer got his ideas from. Very clever stuff. And Ward's performance in that was pitched in a way that made me think he'd make a great Doctor Who (or a good Sherlock Holmes even). This was around 2000/2001, well before Doctor Who was revived.

EDIT: I found it on IMDB.

Its well out of circulation now, but I'd highly recommend it if ever you happen across it.

I actually came across it on some Scandinavian cable channel yearlier this year and Ward was indeed excellent (and quite Doctorish).

While we're taking of missed DW opportunities, imagine Jonathan
Cake (Moseley) as the Master or Pauline McLynn as Donna Noble.
Olivia: What are you doing here?
Walter: We're trying to plug a hole in the universe... What are you doing here?
Olivia: Apparently the same thing
