Camus wrote:Isn't there something mentioned in Gan's first couple of stories that the limiter is because he beats the shit out of women? Or that he raped someone? I'm sure soemthing was said along those lines right at the beginning.

No. He has the limiter because he killed a Federation guard.

Camus wrote:Afterall, if Blake was convicted of being a kiddie fiddler it'd come as no surprise that Gan was a rapist.

erm, you do know that Blake wasn't actually a kiddie fiddler? It was a fake charge, if Gan had been convicted of such a crime (which he wasn't) that logic would imply that that would also be a fake charge.

The charges against Blake are falsified and it appeared that Gan's limiter was actually implanted by the aliens in the cryoship in Time Squad. Thought this was a little unclear.

I'm not sure, but later in the episode Breakdown they may have retconned it to be a Federation implant.

He did admit to his charges being for violence...against the Federation Trooper who killed his woman.

...Because he couldn't rape her anymore.

The limiter doesn't even get mentioned until TIme Squad, when after Gan gets a pasting, he points to this thing on his head. If it had been there all the time, he wouldn't have been much use in Space Fall. Unless it was on the blink.

I don't think they had settled on the idea when when they made Space Fall. Gan's limiter is a bit like Vila's ability to open locks, suddenly appearing out of nowhere a few episodes later, contradicting earlier dialogue. (But both retconnable)

Vila's role as a thief is established in the first episode. In Spacefall, Blake does ask him about the palm panel locks the control the doors inside the London. I find Vila a fairly well established character early on. Gan, on the other hand, seems nothing more than muscle and someone to follow Blake without reservation. As to the limiter its really hard to say since the first notice occurs during his psychotic rant to Jenna. It makes no sense no matter how many times I watch Time Squad. Breakdance, I mean Breakdown makes the device Federation. The Steven's interpretation is based on too little evidence and frankly is Gan were really such a murderer I could hardly see the crew caring to save him.

To answer the query of this thread: no B7 fandom is not the worst in my experience - that would be a little show known as Firefly.

A thief, yes. A lock-pick, no.

And Vila doesn't have a clue, hence my comment! It's a long way away from "There isn't a lock I can't open". As I said, it's retconnable, maybe he didn't want to get directly involved in the rebellion? The delivery doesn't really go with that, but it's possible.

I agree that it does seem that Vila doesn't know a thing about the door panels. My interpretation is that they use his ignorance to introduce Avon, who does know how they work. I think you are right. Vila would not venture to show off his skills unless he felt it was to his benefit - hence the sudden revelation in Time Squad.

Really, with the exception of Gan, I find the male characters of B7 to be fairly strong in character and continuity, with the occasional problem. The female characters are more shaky, I think, due to some bad writing. For example, Dayna, who seems quite capable of killing Servalan to avenge her father and yet never does and even seems to forget the whole thing by season 4. I say this, even though I think having Cally toned down in the 3rd season was good and reasonable direction for the character.

Anorak - I have simply met more fans of this show who are closeminded and think that Joss Stick Wheadon is a genius. It maybe an age thing. Most of these fans are young'uns who never heard of Blake or hell even of 2001: A Space Odyessy.

Yeah, Whedon is certainly overrated IMO.
