I forgot all about "Darmok", Tone. The hook of the plot is that the two of them aren't really in competition with each other in the first place. Neither understands the other's language, but the two of them are pitted together against a third foe who is out to kill them both. Though in typical Star Trek: TNG fashion, the emphesis is on Picard and Darmok learning to understand each other and work to a common good.
